Pat explored a myriad of themes in his work. Some of these themes were personal: swimming pools (from his youth as an amateur swimmer and diver), targets (his interest in archery), and the Prisoner series (his experiences with depression and cancer).
Other themes reflected an interest in fantasy and the surreal: Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, and his “animal rooms” and Fish Houses. Nature and the environment were themes throughout his work: fish, water, and his relationship with fishing.
His work typically utilized commercial techniques such as screen printing, with bold lines and colours; and incorporated elements of irony (anthropomorphism, the animal in the room). Targets and fish were his trade marks, frequently the subject of or incorporated into his work.
The following is an incomplete representation of his work, organized by theme. Currently missing is much of his earlier work from the 60’s through to the 80’s.
Some of the series not currently represented on this site include:
- Animal Rooms
